We often unconsciously create stories for our self that makes everything much harder and that hurts our motivation.
This is a common thing in life. Actually, we are all creating stories. That’s how it is, and it won’t change. What’s important is what these stories are. Are the stories destroying or empowering your passion and motivation?
The common story
For example if you are nervous about an exam in school or a difficult and crucial task at work, it’s easy to create stories that makes everything worse. Stories telling you that this is beyond what you are capable of, that you are a failure and will never make it and that the sensor or your boss will humiliate you. Maybe you create stories that you have no value because someone else is better than you. All of this is dis-empowering stories that hurts you. They are not true. Or, to be correct, if you create these stories, they may become true. Like Henry Ford said: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” If you convince your brain you are not enough, that you are not capable or qualified, and you take on that mindset, you’ll form the results and your future based on that.
The other story
If you instead think that you can, that you are capable, that you’ll master this, and you create empowering stories for yourself, you’ll work towards that result. “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
The instrument
The exact same thing is it with learning an instrument. Sometimes we create stories that it’s no point in learning the instrument because there are so many peoples that are better than you. Stories telling you that you’ll never master the instrument, that you are not talented enough. Talent are more about your work than what you’re born with. The best players in the world has been where you are now. They didn’t become the best by telling themselves stories that they’re not good enough. Some of the best was worse off then you, but still succeeded! Create a story that empowers you and build you up, and you’ll succeed!
